Wisconsin Timber Rattlers at Kane County Cougars
May 14th, 2004
Strange things happen sometimes, those same things are sometimes unexplainable, but ohter times it called the Cougars lost because of mistakes. Wild pitches, hit batters and a sacrifice fly, not to mention the all too common errors helped along the way.
Things started off well for the Cougars as they scored a first inning run to take the lead. That lead would last untill the sixth when things just went south. Brian Snyder hit a homer onto the deck in right field in the first inning.
Momma always said there'd be days like this!. The Cougars felt in the sixth and seventh innings when things just didnt go their way. In the sixth, Adam Jones leadoff by being hit by a pitch. Evel Bastida singled to left. Chis Collins would bunt them over a base. A wild pitch would then move the runners along again, this time Jones would score. Brent Metheny struck out. Chris Colton then singled to center to score Bastida. The Cougars then made a pitching change, bringin in Dan Fyvie to replace Jared Trout. Fyvie would then walk Michael Cox, to put runners on first and second with two outs. Josh Womack poped out to third to end the inning.
In the seventh it wouldn't get much better for the Cougars. With one out, Josh Ellison was hit by a pitch, then he stole second. Jones would then send a fly to the warning track in right. Right fielder Luis Perez fell down against the wall as he caught the ball. Jones tagged up and scored all the way from second to put the Rattlers up two runs.
The Cougars just beat themselves in the eighth. Fyvie struck out Collins and Metheny to lead things off. Colton then tripled to the right center field gap. He was just flying around the bases. Second baseman Luke Appert tried to get him at third but his throw eventually went into left field after it bounced a little bit. Colton would come and score on the error. Michael Cox then reached on a throwing error by third baseman Vasili Spanos. Womack grounded out to second to end the inning.
A leadoff double by Trevor Brown in the seventh would eventually amount to a run. The Rattlers then made a pitching change. One out later, that would result in Brown getting to third. Rogers then grounded out to short, on the play Brown would score.
The Cougars were not without their chances in this game. In the third inning, Luis Perez singled to center. Nick Rogers would then draw the free pass. Appert reached on a fielder's choice, with Rogers being out at second. Now the Cougars had first and third with only one out. Snyder would pop out ot the catcher for the second out. Eddie Kim then grounded one to first to end the threat. The fourth inning saw the Cougars strand two more runners. Spanos lead off with a single to right. Two outs later Brown would get hit by a pitch. Perez popped out to short to end that inning.
