Kane County Cougars at Clinton Lumberkings

Well, today the Cougars offense came to work, and scored ten runs on 14 hits, its just their defense that was a no show. They did most of their damage in the fifth inning with six runs. They would not score after that inning, and only gave up two runs after that also.
David Castillo lead the way with three hits, one homer and two doubles. He drove in four runs. Dustin Majewski also had a big day. He had three hits, including one homer. Luke Appert also had three hits, including a two run homer in the fifth.
This was going to be a good pitching matchup, as the Cougars threw Chris Dunwell against the Lumberkings John Danks. Danks is the number two prospect in the Rangers system, only behind Cougar alum Adrian Gonzalez.
Dunwell lasted untill the seventh, but wasn't as sharp as he has been often this year. He gave up ten hits and five runs. Danks lasted into the fourth inning, giving up six hits and four runs. Thankfully for the Cougars the Kings pen, namely Joldy Watts gave up five hits and six runs in just over an inning of work.
Brian Ingram led off the game with a single to right. Luis Perez followed that with a walk. Castillo wasted little time putting the Cougars on the board, as he hit a three run homer downt he left field line. Clinton came right back in the bottom of the inning with two runs of their own. With one out, Micah Furtado singled to left, then stole second. Josh Kruezer would single to left to bring home Furtado. Dane Bubela then drove one to left, the ball went under left fielder Luis Perez' glove, which allowed Kruezer to score and Bubela went to second. A really wild pitch would get Bubela to third, he would try to score on the pitch and be throw out by Castillo to Dunwell to end the inning.
Clinton tied the game back up in the third when the Cougars defense again got sloppy. With one out, Furtado lined one to center, Dustin Majewski amde a great diving catch for the second out. Ian Kinsler, the leagues leading hitter, then singled to short. A erant pickoff throw would get Kinsler to third. First baseman Eddie Kim tried to get Kinsler at third and the ball went way off line, which let Kinsler score to tie the game.
Majewski led off the fourth with a solo homer to left. Two outs later Nick Rogers reach on an error, then he stole second. Ingram would walk. Danks was then removed from the game and Watts came in . Perez walked on four pitches to load the bases. Castillo would line out to right to end the inning.
The fifth inning was the Cougars inning, they scored six runs on five hits. Kim led off the inning with a single to center. One out later Majewski singled to left. Vasili Spanos then singled to right to allow both Kim and Majewksi to score. Appert then hit a two run homer to right. Rogers would walk, then he stole second and third. One out later Perez walked. Castillo followed that up with a double to left to score both Rogers and Perez.
Oddly enough the final run scored would be a Lumberkings run. Furtado led off the sixth with a single back to the pitcher. Kinsler then doubled down the left field line to score Furtado.
In the seventh inning the Kings would strike again with one run. With one out Kevin Richardson hit one to left, Perez would basically drop the ball near the wall to allow Richardson a double. Emerson Frostad then singled down the left field line to let Richardson score. After that Dunwell was done. The Cougars then brought in Dan Fyvie. Adam Bourassa lined out to center, and Furtado grounded out to end the inning. In the eighth inning the Kings would have a chance to score against Fyvie. With one out Kruezer doubled to left. Dan Bubela then hit one that looked like it could go, but it hit the wall. Kruezer would only get to third on the double. Fyvie then got Larry Grayson and Andrew Wishy on strikes to end the inning.
