Wisconsin Timber Rattlers at Kane County Cougars
April 23rd, 2001
Phillip B. Elfstrom Stadium, Geneva, Illinios

The hitting machine keeps on turing, the Cougars pouned out ten hits in a game again. This is starting to become common place, for these Cougars. The team is leading the league in hitting with an average over 300. They also have won five straight games.

Well everything was good today except for a couple of things. First of all the Cougars commited four errors, while the Rattlers only commited three. Yes I know the weather was very frightfull today. Second of all the Rattlers just like the Cougars got ten hits.

The bullpen did a great job today of holding down the fort, since starter Gustavo Lopez lasted only an inning. Chris Key, Mike Flannery, Randy Messenger, and Brandon Sloan combined to go seven innings. They gave up six hits, and two runs, only one of those runs were earned. The pen also walked four and struck out nine.

Lopez got rocked as he lasted only an inning, but hey at least after he was able to get out of the cold. He gave up four hits and three runs.

Jim Kavourias hit his league leading eighth homer of the season in the first inning. He has hit three homer in the last three games. Will Smith hit his first homer since the day he hit three in a game early in the season.

Josh Wilson had three hits, two doubles and a single, and scored twice. Adrian Gonzalez had two hits.

For Wisconsin, Kevin Olore started and lasted into the fourth. He gave up six hits and eight runs. Seven of those runs were earned. He walked three and struck out six. Hawkeye Wayne then came in for an inning, and gave up two runs, and walked three. Russ Morgan and Roy Wells then combined to go three and one thirds innings, they gave up four hits and one run. While they also walked two and struck out six.

The scoring started in the top of the first when with one out Chuck Lopez singled to left, then stole second. Jaime Bubela hit one to first baseman Adrian Gonzalez, Gonzalez then threw the ball to the pitcher Gus Lopez. Lopez was looking at the base, to make sure he touched it, the only problem was the ball went into the dugout. On the play Lopez was allwed to score. Blake Bone then hit a homer that went over the foul pole in right to score Bubela.

The Cougars would come right back in the bottom of the inning when with two outs, Adrian Gonzalez walked. Jim Kavourias then hit one onto the bleachers in right. A note to all the fans who attend the Cougars games, the Torco sign on top of the scoreboard actually lit up, for this homer. There is a first for everything.

Kane County added three more in the second when with one out, Josh Wilson doubled to center. Dennis Anderson then hit a triple to center, the scary part is he hit it so well that he made it saftly without sliding. On the play Wilson would score. One out later Will Smith hit a homer to score Anderson.

The Rattlers would chip away at the lead in the fourth when Guillemo Martinez lead off the inning by reaching on a Gonzalez error. Jamal Strong then singled to right. One out later, Jaime Bubela would reach on second baseman Josh Wilson's error, on the play Strong would Martinez would score.

The Cougars added to thier lead in the bottom of the inning when Josh Willingham started it off by reaching an error by the rightfielder, Willingham would end up on second. Josh Wilson the doubled to center to score Willingham. Dennis Anderson then walked. Chip Ambres struck out. Will Smith then walked to load the bases. Adrian Gonzalez reached on a fielder's choice in which Wilson was cut down at the plate. Jim Kavourias was then hit by a pitch, to allow Anderson to score. Pat Magness then walked to allow Smith to score. Miguel Cabrera then also walked, this time Gonzalez would score.

Three more in the fifth for the Cougars when Josh Wilson led off the inning with a single to right, then stole second and advanced to third on a balk. Dennis Anderson then hit a sacrifice fly to right to score Wilson. Chip Ambres then walked. One out later Adrian Gonzalez doubled to left to score Ambres. Jim Kavourias then walked. Pat Magness singled to center to score Gonzalez.

The Rattlers would not go down easily in the ninth when Blake Bone led the inning off with a double to center. Mark Carroll then singled to left to score Bone.

Time- too long

Notes-Ok lets see first I will like to say that those of you who did not stay because of the cold are chickens, especially my father. Secondly if anyone knows the guys in the press box the guy who controlls the score board, I willl like to strangle him. He put up on the board between the 8 and 9 inning that toninght's windchill was 12 degress, thanks for reminding us that we were freezing are butts off out there in the stands.
