The Cougars win again, this time in great come from behind fashion
with five runs in the last two innings, to get a one run victory. The
Cougars inprove to 24-10 on the season and are firmly entrenched in second
place in the western division.
It did not look good for the Cougars in the begining of the game as
their deffense went south on them. Things just did not go the Cougars
way untill the eighth inning. Some of that bad spell has just got to
go to Peoria starter, Chris Narveson whow as Midwest League player of the
week last week and the way he pitched today, it was much deserved. He
went seven innings and gave up six hits and one runs. The impressive things
are the fact that he did not walk anybody and he struck out twelve Cougars.
He struck out the last two men he faced.
For the Cougars, Brad Haynes started and had another rough outing. He
went six inning, but gave up five runs, four of the runs were earned.
He did not walk anybody which is fantastic, and he also struck out seven.
Brad was fine untill the middle innings when things just seemed to fall
apart for him.
The Cougars bullpen did another outstanding job as Chris Key was first out
of the pen, and he went an inning giving up two hits. Hansel Izquierdo then came
and picked up the voctory. He went two innings and was perfect.
The offense sputterd through the first seven innings, getting only
seven hits and scoring one run. Most of those hits could've easily
been scored errors. In that period of time Adrian Gonzalez and Miguel
Cabrera both had two hits. After the seventh inning the Cougars got five
hits and four runs. Will Smith had two of the hits.
The scoring started in the second for the Chiefs, with two outs
Albert Rodgers was hit by a pitch. Then Ryan Hamill doubled to left, Rodgers
would score on the play.
The Chiefs added one more in the fourth when John Gall lead off the
inning with a double to left. Landon Brandes then reached on error by
catcher Matt Postell. On the play Brandes put down a sacrifice bunt, and
Postell got to the ball but made a bad throw. On the play Gall would score.
The Cougars got on the board in the fifth when Cabrera lead off the inning with a
single to center. Josh Wilson then doubled to left to score Cabrera.
Peoria padded their lead in the bottom of the inning when Hamill lead
off the inning with a double to left. Chase Vosell then singled to right.
Shaun Boyd then hit into a fielder's choice. On the play the infield was
playing in to cut down the run at the plate, third baseman Josh Willingham
got the ball and threw home to cut down Hamill. Chris Morris then singled
to right to score Vosell. One out later, Gall doubled to left to score
both Boyd and Morris.
The Cougars then smelled the raw meat in front of their face, and finally
started to charge after the Cheifs in the eighth when, Matt Easterday lead
off the inning with a double, he advanced to third on a wild pitch. Chip
Ambres then walked. Smith reached on an infield single back to the pitcher.
The Chiefs then made a pitching change and got reliever Carmen Cali out
of there, they brought in Santo Samora with the base juiced. Adrian Gonzalez
then hit a triple to center to score all three runs to bring the Cougars within
one run.
In the ninth inning Josh Wilson lead off the inning with his second
home run of the season, and his second in two nights. This one went to
left center field and almost hit the Cougars bus which was parked just
beyond the fence. The homer tied the game. Two outs later Ambres reached
on an infield single to short. Smith then won the game for the Cougars
with a double to left to score Ambres.
