Well the Cougars did it again, yes another victory, their fifth in a row, and their 29th
out of 40 games. The Cougars are still in first place by a full game over the Bandits. The Cougars did it again in another way also they made us all wait, this time untill the tenth inning before they would win the game. This is starting to get hard to sit throught the first few innings since it seems like they give up three or four in the first few innings then in the eighth and ninth or sometimes the tenth they win the game.
Oh well, there were two players that really played good games today, one offense and one pitcher. Terry Byron in only his second game since coming off the disabled list pitched four perfect innings of releif to hold the Cougars close till the offense started to click. Terry struck out five in his outing and looked realy good. Eventhough walking off the mound he still didn't smile.
Will Smith also had a good game he drove home the tieing run int he fifth and the winning run in the tenth. Those two were also his only two hits of the game.
The bullpen as a whole did an outstanding job. Chirs Key, Terry Byron and Brandon Sloan combined to go 6.2 ip, 1 h, 0 r,0 er, 0 bb, 11 k. Yes that is eleven strikeouts by the bullpen. The bullpen retired 17 Whitecaps in a row between the fourth and the ninth innings.
Manuel Esquivia started for the Cougars for his second time since coming off of the disabled list. He went into the fourth innig. Manuel gave up five hits, three runs, all earned. He walked two and did not strike anybody out. In his first two innings, both with runners on third, he got out of the jam without giving up a run.
Pablo Arias went for the Whitecaps, and he did not pitch all that badly. He went seven innings, giving up six hits and three runs. Only two of those runs were earned. He walked two and struck out six. The Cougars did something not to many Midwest League teams have been able to do against him, since he had a streak of around 23 innings in a row without giving up a earned run.
The scoring started in the third for the Whitecaps when with one out Miles Durham singled to right, then stole second. One out later Forrest Johnson reached on an infield single to third. Matt Walker then doubled to left to score both Durham and Johhson.
The Whitecaps would add one more in the fourth when Hugh Quattlebaum led off the inning with a double to left. Quattlebaum then made it to third on a wild pitch. Chris Parker then hit a sacrifice fly to center to score Quattlebaum.
The Cougars finally go on the board in the bottom of the inning when with two out Jim Kavourias was hit by a pitch. Josh Willingham then singled to left. The left fielder Durham overan the ball and Kavourias would score.
Francisco Ferrand then came up in the fifth to lead things off with a single to right. Dennis Anderson then walked. Arias then balked the runners up a base. Josh Wilson then grounded out to short to score Ferrand. One out later Will Smith tied the game with a single to center to score Anderson.
Finally the Cougars would win the game in the tenth when Chip Ambres walked to lead off the inning. Chip would move up on a wild pitch to second. Smitht hen singled to center and Ambres ran as fast as he could to just beat the throw to win the game.
