Kane County Cougars at Clinton Lumberkings

Alliant Energy Field (Riverview Stadium), Clinton, Iowa
The Cougars had one big inning tonight and that inning propelled them to the
victory. Other than that inning the game wouldve been 3-2 Clinton. The Cougars scored five
runs. The Cougars sent ten men to the plate and had five hits.
Dontrelle Willis made his third start of the year, and pitched well. He went
six innings, and gave up three runs. Elvis DeJesus then came in and pitched the seventh and
gave up a walk and a single. Kevin Cave was next and pitched two innings, getting three strikeouts.
For the Lumberkings, Jason Norderum started the game and got shelled. David Maust came in and
stopped the bleading, he went two and one thirds inning of perfect ball getting two strikeouts. Chris Bye then got two
outs and gave up five earned runs.
Michael Tucker got up to the plate five times and he reached base all
five times. He walked three times and had two singles to right. He only scored once. Jason Stokes
had three hits. He got a double and had two runs batted in.
The scoring started in the second inning for the Kings. Dominick Ambrosini
lead things off with a triple to left, on the play leftfielder, George Arnott dove
for the ball, and missed it, the ball got past him and Ambrosini made it to third.
Clyde Williams then hit a sacrifice fly to right to allow Ambrosini to score from third.
The Cougars scored in the fifth when, with one out. Anthony Brewer
walked, then stole second. Hunter Wyant then singled to left to get Brewer to third. Jason
Stokes singeld up the middle to score Brewer. George Arnott then lined one hard
to left, the leftfilder Ambrosini caught the ball around the knee caps, and threw the ball
to second, he almost got Wyant out at second. Charles Frazier then singled to left to
drive home Wyant to take the lead. Michael Tucker then walked. The Lumberkings then made a pitching
change, David Maust came in with the bases loaded and two outs. Maust gets a fielder's choice, to end the inning.
The next half inning saw the Lumberkings score again, with one out. Shawn Norris single through the middle.
Drew McMillon then lined one to center. Anthony Brewer came in instead of going out, and missed
the ball, it went over his head. McMillon got a triple. Norris scored. Willis got out of the
inning with a groundout and a strikeout.
Greg Thissen led of the sixth inning with a single to right. Josh Labarderia then
single past a diving Stokes. Thissen moved to third. Dominic Ambrosini then grounded out to third.
On the play Thissen would score to give the Kings the lead 3-2.
In the eighth inning the Cougars put up a rally. Michael Tucker singled to right. Guy Lynam tried to
put down the sacrifice bunt. He got the bunt down and put it into no mans land between the mound and an uncoverd
first base bag. Kris Clute then tried the butcher boy play and it worked. He singled to right to load the bases.
William Arroyo grounded out to first. On the play Tucker scored. Anthony Brewer then blooped one to center for a single.
On the play Lynam scored. Hunter Wyant then grounded out to short, on the play Clute scored. Lumberkings pitcher Chris
Bye uncorked a wild pitch to move Brewer to third. Jason Stokes riped a single to left to score Brewer. The Kings brought in a
new pitcher, Rob Caputo. His first pitch to George Arnott, was way behind him. Arnott would end up walking. Charles Frazier was
hit by the first pitch he saw. This loaded the bases. Michael Tucker then walked to bring home Stokes. Guy Lynam then struck out
with the bases loaded to end the inning.
